Univar USA Inc.

Univar’s history dates back to 1924 when George Van Waters and Nat Rogers opened a small firm in Seattle, Washington, that sold paint, raw materials, caustic soda, soda ash and a few other products. The company quickly moved into the chemical distribution business and grew in the West.

In 1986, Univar purchased McKesson Chemical. At the time, Univar dominated the West with 59 branches and McKesson Chemical dominated the East and Midwest with 68 locations. Due to the acquisition, Univar became the largest chemical distributor in North America with a network of facilities coast-to-coast in the United States and Canada.

Another major acquisition occurred in 2001 when Univar acquired Ellis & Everard. The acquisition solidified Univar’s leadership position in the United States.

In 2007, the acquisition of CHEMCENTRAL Corporation accelerated Univar’s growth in several targeted industries: coatings, personal care and chemical compounding.

Univar USA is a wholly owned subsidiary of Univar N.V., one of the world’s leading independent distributors of industrial chemicals and providers of related specialty services.
