 | Rotterdam, The Netherlands – December 10, 2007 – Univar N.V., a world leader in chemical distribution, today announced that it has closed on the purchase of Dow Canada's western Canada caustic soda distribution assets, as announced August 13, 2007.
The assets consist of caustic soda storage and transportation assets, primarily tank terminal assets and leasehold at North Vancouver, British Columbia, and an owned fleet of 374 railcars, plus related supply and sales contracts. This acquisition will enhance Univar Canada’s footprint in the distribution of caustic soda in western Canada and the Pacific Northwest. It will also increase Univar Canada’s annual sales of liquid caustic soda by an amount between 250,000 and 280,000 dry metric tons. With the addition of the Dow business, Univar N.V. will now operate seven deep-sea and six barge terminals in North America, having added one deep-sea terminal with this acquisition. The company anticipates no disruption to customers during their transition to Univar Canada.
Univar is one of the world’s leading caustic soda solution resellers. Caustic soda is an essential ingredient in many industries, including pulp and paper, textiles, soap and detergents, bleach, petroleum products and alumina, and many other uses in the chemical processing industry. In western Canada and the Pacific Northwest, the predominant uses are in pulp production and the energy sector. |
